Development Economics Program Strengthens Good University Governance at UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta – The Development Economics Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business, UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta, continues to reinforce its commitment to supporting the achievement of Good University Governance through the strengthening of governance and management systems that are accountable, systematic, and oriented toward the attainment of the institution’s vision.

As part of the Study Program Management Unit (UPPS), the Development Economics Study Program implements governance practices that are consistently structured based on the Statute of UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta, which refers to the Regulation of the Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia Number 39 of 2015 concerning the Organization and Governance of UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta. This structure is further reinforced by various rector regulations and decrees governing authority, working relationships, and decision-making mechanisms at each organizational level.

The Head of the Development Economics Study Program stated that strong governance serves as a fundamental pillar for the sound and sustainable management of the study program. Through a clear governance framework, all elements at the faculty, department, and study program levels are able to operate in a directed, coordinated, and aligned manner with institutional goals.

In its implementation, the UPPS and the Development Economics Study Program manage resources systematically through the functions of planning, organizing, directing, and controlling. This approach ensures that both academic and non-academic resources are managed effectively to realize the vision, achieve objectives, and meet established strategic targets.

The strengthening of governance is also reflected in the implementation of integrated leadership. Within the UPPS and the Development Economics Study Program, leadership governance is categorized into three main dimensions: operational leadership, organizational leadership, and public leadership. These dimensions are implemented synergistically at the faculty, department, and study program levels to ensure that decision-making processes are effective, adaptive, and responsive to stakeholder needs.

Operational leadership is demonstrated through the ability of work units to ensure that programs are implemented in a targeted, timely, and quality-assured manner. Organizational leadership is reflected in the ability to build coordination, consolidation, and institutional development that supports a culture of quality. Meanwhile, public leadership is manifested in the ability to establish networks, communication, and an active institutional role within society and the professional sphere.

Through governance grounded in regulations, systematic management practices, and integrated leadership, the Development Economics Study Program demonstrates its strong commitment to supporting the realization of Good University Governance within UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta. This commitment forms an essential part of continuous quality improvement efforts, strengthening institutional accountability, and enhancing stakeholder trust.

Moving forward, the Development Economics Study Program will continue to strengthen governance practices that are transparent, participatory, accountable, effective, and equitable as a foundation for delivering high-quality higher education services with meaningful impact on society.
